Amfitheatrof, a 1993 graduate of the Royal College of Art Jewellery & Silversmith MA, is one of Britain's brightest young jewellers.
An Italian/American of Russian extraction, the designer was born in Japan and educated in England. Since graduating, the designer has sold her work in art galleries, fashion boutiques, and to private clients including Giorgio Armani, Eric Clapton and Prince Michael of Greece.
The designer who describes her style as "natural, strong, simple - artwork as fashion, jewellery as talisman" has been supported by art collectors and gallery owners including Jay Jopling, who gave her a London show in 1995, and Anthony d'Offay. Her design work for Karl Lagerfeld, Fendi, and Elspeth Gibson however has given Amfitheatrof a global reputation.
In Britain Amfitheatrof is best known for her own line (1996-99). Her bubble rings and industrial plastic ID 'tag' bracelets, designed with the intention to be worn, and never taken off (the only way to take them off is to cut them off), were cult.
For the past three years Amfitheatrof has worked for Alessi as a product designer creating tablewear and other pieces; Alessi is also relaunching the 'tag' bracelet.
